Does it matter if I Snore?

Snoring is a common problem, but it should never be ignored. Eighty million American patients snore regularly. At least 70% of these cases involve patients who snore loudly and may have more severe health problems. Excessive snoring can be an indicator of Obstructive Sleep Apnea.

The word “apnea” means “without breath” and if you suffer from sleep apnea, you will stop breathing as many as 100 times throughout the night. Soft tissue that obstructs these airways causes snoring and blocks the airway. The most serious consequence of a restricted airway is limited oxygen flow to the lungs and brain.

Sleep apnea may cause Physical strain.

Pauses in your breathing will lower the oxygen saturation levels of your blood, producing higher blood pressure. For your body to relax into a deep, restful sleep, you must experience decreased systemic activity. When the heart is not allowed this type of rest, it is stressed in dangerous ways. This will eventually bring about severe heart-related problems.

Sleep apnea also hinders weight loss. A lack of deep sleep will cause a decrease in the hormone that signals to the brain that the stomach is full. The hormonal imbalance that is consequently produced will cause a vicious cycle of overconsumption of calories and poor nutritional decisions, creating additional weight gain.

We treat more than Snoring.

Only treating snoring is like turning off a fire alarm but walking away from the fire. You must confront sleep apnea by dealing with the actual airway. We will custom fit you with an oral appliance that addresses sleep apnea, not only snoring. Treating sleep apnea will help the patient obtain truly, restful sleep that reduces the risk of a whole list of serious health issues.
