Do’s and Don’ts of Denture Care

During the day, the dentures make you confident to smile, speak and eat like you were before you lost your teeth. But how should you store them properly in the night when you are ready to take them out? Proper storage helps prevent and keep your dentures clean and fresh.

Why Care Is Important?

Dentures should comfortably fit into your mouth and last for many years if they are cared for. These replacements include full dentures, replacing whole teeth rows and partial dentures replace multiple teeth. You should also have detailed instructions on how to wear, clean and store them overnight when you receive your dentures from your dentist. Effective dental storage prevents the desiccation of your dentures, loss of its shape and stiff wear, according to the American Dental Association. Furthermore, these have to be cleaned and hygienically stored or may develop plaque and tartar as natural teeth into a breeding ground for mouth bacteria.

How to Store

Without the prototype of your dentist, the ADA recommends that you use a clean water or denture cleaning solution as the best method to store. The benefits of dental solutions can be the reduction in the amount of bacteria and fungi living in dentures and the prevention of uncomfortable smells. If, however, your solution is created by dissolving the tablets in warm water, make sure that the water is not too warm – this could lead to your dentures warp. You should always follow the label directions when using dentures. Storing in a good process will reduce the need of dental implants further.

Do:

  • Keep your dentures moist otherwise it could be shapeless.

  • If you are using a solution follow the directions on the label.

  • Put it in a container to keep it safe and it must not be knocked over. This helps to prevent your dentures from dropping to a difficult surface to break up.

  • Follow your dental professional's instructions on dental storage.

Rinse it thoroughly, particularly when using a solution, before putting them back in your mouth. These solutions can include harmful substances that, if swallowed, cause vomiting, pain or burns.

Follow regular checkups. Your dentist would suggest how often to visit for examination and cleaning of your dentures. Your dentist can help prevent gliding and discomfort by ensuring that it is fit and inside your mouth to make sure it is healthy.

See the dentist if dentures do not fit well. Take a look at your dentist immediately if your tooth decreases. Loose denture can result in irritation, sores and infection.

Don't

  • Leave the denture at night. Brush the plaque and debris and put in clean water or a cleaning solution at night.

  • Put in boiling or hot water as his can lead to warping

  • On your dentures use abrasive toothpastes or tough brushes. Make sure, instead, that you use toothpaste with gentle toothpaste.

  • Use whitening and bleaching products on your teeth, as they may damage your teeth.
